David’s Bookcase: an update

Earlier this year, we made a post telling you all about the wonderful addition to our Bourne Green cafe – a bookcase created by local resident David.

Today, we pause to celebrate and reflect on the joy and humour that David would bring to our cafe, as it is with sadness that we share that David has passed away.

When running a community coffee shop, you end up finding connections and friendships you would have never otherwise stumbled upon. We see such a glorious range of the Bourne community every day at our cafe, and over the last several years have come to get to know a truly wonderful bunch of individuals.

It’s how our community bookcase came to be – David and his wife saw that there as the potential for locals to share and swap books over a brew, and almost instantaneously solved our problem of not knowing where to store them!

We’re so thankful that David took the time to craft us a made-to-measure bookcase, which has since seen all sorts of books shared and discussed. We feel comfort in the knowledge that David’s legacy as the ‘bookcase crafter’ will live on, as customers continue to enjoy a good read and natter whilst enjoying one of our coffees. Needless to mention the other DIY jobs that David would see and without-mentioning, go ahead to fix…. that patch in our outdoor sign was fixed without our knowledge all thanks to David! We just looked out the window one day, and saw him working away in the pouring rain. When asked about what he was doing, David modestly said that he’d had enough of seeing the hole in the board, and didn’t even mention the downpour.

Thank you to all of those who leave books for us to share with the world, and thank you to David for making it all possible.
