Al Fresco Afternoons at Secrett’s Farm Shop, with The Coffee Can

As spring rolls into Milford with its longer days and slightly warmer temperature (although, it must be said that we’d happily take 5 or so more degrees on the daily average), it seems like now is the perfect time to have spruced up our outdoor seating area at our Surrey Farm Shop café.

April has brought far more sun than we could’ve hoped for here in the UK – you can thank Amy for bringing it back from Barcelona. It’s had us feeling inspired to make the most of our outdoor seating which stood patiently in the background though those drab winter months that started this year off.

Those with eager eyes may have spotted that last month saw another round of handmade bench seating appear, but this time outside. The addition of benches is perfect for small groups having brunch, solo flat white sippers, or parents with little ones in tow. Our green fingers have come into play with new plant pots that bring a splash of colour to the space, and we honestly feel like the space has never felt like it’s had more of a cosy garden vibe to it.

Whether you’re grabbing a morning cappuccino or seeking out a sunny spot to finish those final chapters of your book of an afternoon, the coffee shop garden space is now an absolute sunlit haven.

Our spring-time menu recommendations

We often say that we think our menu has something for everyone, but if you’re looking to seek out the perfect springtime coffee afternoon, here are some picks that we think you should steer towards:

Fresh gelato from Dylan’s Ice Cream

It’s an obvious, but it’s oh so right for all the obvious reasons. Picture that first scoop of gelato of the year in a proper waffle cone, blue skies above with seating set against the dappled shade of our veranda. We actually couldn’t think of a better launch into spring if we tried. We are so thankful to work with Ben at Dylan’s Ice Cream to bring local produce to the people of Surrey. Ben and his team produce all their gelato down the A3 in Haslemere, and we’re constantly looking at new flavours which change with the seasons.

An iced matcha latte

Those icy green drinks aren’t just a trend, they’re here to stay. We’ve seen a massive surge in popularity of our matcha at The Coffee Can, and with more and more shops adopting it as a mainstay on the menu, we aren’t expecting it to go anywhere any time soon. It has an acquired taste for some, but ask our team of baristas to add a bit of vanilla to your iced matcha and you’ll be making it your daily order in no time.

Granola bowls

This time of year sees us shift away from hearty porridge, to a breakfast option that’s equally as filling but with less of the ‘dark winter morning’ vibe to it. We create our own berry compote to complete our granola bowls and have everyone hooked on them from the moment they first try one. We use seasonal fruits, a granola mix and fresh greek yoghurt to bring you a bowl of breakfast that’s going to keep you full and energised all morning.

Banana Bread with Mocha butter

An in-house recipe which has been tried and tested to perfection, meets River Coffee‘s espresso blended into spreadable butter. Set in the context of an afternoon relax under the sun, this is the sweet treat fix that dreams are made of. Our banana bread isnt too sweet, and is fantastic toasted. They may have been available absolutely everywhere during the lockdowns, but we assure you that banana bread is a very good choice this spring.

And let’s be honest – an iced latte just hits different when you’re sitting under the spring sun.

So next time you’re driving through Milford, come and take a break at our terrace, soak in the sun, and enjoy what spring has to offer.
